Will you remodel in the new year?
You have plenty of options if you decide to renovate or remodel your home or business in 2026.
One consideration: Why do you want to make the changes?
With the real estate market stalled in many areas, people may choose to increase their comfort level by upgrading their existing property.
They find practical ways to improve their surroundings, according to a report by the National Association of Realtors.
Top methods include:
• 27 percent upgrading worn surfaces, finishes, or systems
• 19 percent improving energy efficiency, which can range from buying a smart thermostat to installing a new HVAC system
• 18 percent making improvements to prepare their homes for sale.
Other goals, too
Some will opt for “wellness and lifestyle enrichment.”
That includes “spa-like bathrooms, multifunctional kitchens, outdoor entertainment areas, and home gyms,” says Porch Group Media, which studies trends in the home improvement business.
These property-owners are looking for personal comfort and enjoyment along with functional improvements, PGM said.
And baby boomers will put more emphasis on “aging in place.” These changes include walk-in showers, wider doorways, stair lifts and conversion of rooms to new uses.
Tech talk
Expect the emphasis on technology in homes to increase as people see the benefits of Artificial Intelligence. People of all age brackets want convenience, entertainment, safety and other perks that technology promises.
A remodeling forecast by the National Association of Home Builders says automated lighting, smart appliances and integrated security systems will become expected functions, not luxury items.
This finding is echoed in a joint study by Redfin, the real estate giant, and Thumbtack, a home-services platform.
“This focus on future-ready technology isn’t just about convenience; it’s about value. The typical homeowner expects AI and smart innovations to increase their home’s resale value by 15 percent over the next decade,” the study said, according to a report in Forbes, a business publication.
What’s cooking?
One goal remains constant. Many people want to improve their kitchens. It’s likely to be the No. 1 remodeling area in 2026. Again.
With so many possibilities, people are often eager to expand their kitchen, install new appliances or add important amenities. And we all want a happy cook!
